Why I Still Test Everything on Myself

Dan Caron, co-founder of RNWY, testing products at a running event

Testing RNWY products the same way real people use them — during training, events, and everyday life.

I don’t believe in building things from theory alone.

Every product we make at RNWY starts with one selfish question:

Would I actually use this every day while training?

If the answer isn’t yes, we don’t make it.

I test things the same way real people live:

  • Early mornings

  • Busy days

  • Back-to-back training sessions

  • Travel

  • Stress

  • Inconsistency everywhere except training

If something only works when life is perfect, it’s not real life.

What I actually pay attention to is simple:

  • How my joints feel after weeks, not days

  • Whether digestion stops being something I think about

  • If hydration actually changes how I feel during and after a run

  • Whether something simplifies my routine or adds friction

Most supplements don’t fail loudly.

They fail quietly.

They don’t cause problems — they just don’t do anything noticeable.

That’s worse.

If I’m not noticing a difference in my own training, I’m not interested.
