“Isn’t running bad for your joints?”
Chances are, if you’re a dedicated runner, you’ve had this question thrown in your direction at least once or twice. The truth of the matter is complicated. Research suggests that recreational running reduces the likelihood of joint and bone issues like osteoporosis and osteoarthritis, but running at an elite level could elevate your chances of long-term issues.
So the truth is, it can be, if you’re not supporting your long-term joint health with a holistic solution. The harder you train, the more you should be thinking about preventative measures to keep your body moving for longer. As our body’s shock absorbers, our joints need sustenance, too, just like you need carbs for energy, or water to stay hydrated. And when it comes to our joint system, that means collagen.
What is collagen? Why do we need it?
How much time have you got?
Collagen, in all its weird and wonderful forms, is a protein that’s used throughout the body to provide structure and strength. You probably know that it’s a building block for hair, nails and skin. You might not know that it’s also essential for maintaining strong and resilient joints, cartilage and tendons. Collagen is essential for maintaining the bits that make us look good on the outside, and the bits that make us work on the inside.
As we age, the rate at which our body produces collagen decreases. Our skin becomes less elastic; our hair, nails, and joints become more brittle. Head to the beauty section of any grocery store and you’ll find shelves stacked with potions and products aimed at improving skin, hair, and nail appearance through collagen supplements. They’ve got their place, but that’s not what we’re doing with RNWY Foundation.
Why is The Athlete’s Collagen different?
In RNWY Foundation, we use two specially-formulated collagen supplements. They’re called TENDOFORTE® and FORTIGEL®, and they’ve been created to support the unique lifestyle of runners and endurance athletes. Together, we call them The Athlete’s Collagen™️. It’s collagen for athletics, not aesthetics.
First up, is FORTIGEL®. This one’s primarily targeted at joint health. Running is an intensive, high-impact sport, and it can be hard on the body. Our joints are what absorb most of the impact from the pavement, so we should all be thinking about how to maintain joint health for as long as we can, right?
FORTIGEL® is scientifically proven to regenerate joint cartilage. It stimulates the body’s own mechanisms to promote joint health naturally, and the collagen peptides in FORTIGEL® are specifically tailored to activate the growth of new cartilage. That means more comfortable joints in the long run, and smoother, more fluid movements in the joints themselves. On its own, FORTIGEL® can provide a significant boost in performance and recovery.
Next up, we’ve got TENDOFORTE®. This one is more focused on your ligaments and tendons. Just like our joints, the ligaments and tendons throughout our body – the bits that attach the muscles to bones and bones to other bones – need care and attention. TENDOFORTE® is designed to strengthen these crucial connective tissues, promoting health and reducing the risk of injuries.
Most runners know that a ligament or tendon injury can absolutely derail their training. It can ruin a session, put you out of action for months, or make you fall out of love with your sport completely. TENDOFORTE® provides the nourishment your tendons and ligaments need to avoid injury as best you can, and research shows that it not only strengthens tendons and ligaments, but also improves their flexibility. That’s something we could all use a little more of.
Supporting your long-term active joint health
When we started RNWY, we knew from day 1 that our first product would need to be something that supports runners and endurance athletes in the long run. It needed to offer a long-term solution for the parts of the body impacted by running the most. When we shopped around, we noticed there weren’t many products that specifically focused on joint health, and that’s how Foundation was born.
Here’s the thing, though. You don’t need to be an endurance athlete to benefit from RNWY Foundation. Whether you’re 15 or 50, training every day or moving more slowly, supplementing the collagen in your diet with The Athlete’s Collagen in Foundation can be beneficial to almost everyone.
